Face things to look for Resp exam
> Pallor of conjuctivae
Signs of Horner’s syndrome:
-Partial Ptosis (drooping of the eyelid)
-Miosis (Constriction of pupil)
-Anhidrosis (no sweating, feel around the face)
Nose (use torch):
-Deviated septum
-Nasal Polyps
-Enorgred turbinates
Mouth (use torch):
-Central cyanosis (under tongue)
-Reddening of pharynx
-Tonsils
Palpate frontal sinus (above eyebrows)
Palpate maxillary sinus (below eyes)
Palpate ethmoid sinus (next to eye)
Pallor of the conjunctivae
Get patient to pull eyelids down and see if overtly light/white
Signs of Horner’s syndrome
Miosis - constricted pupil
Ptosis - droopy eyelid
Anhydrosis -lack of sweating, must palpate the face
Nose- Resp exam
Ask patient to tilt head back and look at nose with pen torch for:
Nasal polyps - bumps in nose
Septal deviation
Engorged turbinates - just like big old bit of tissue in nose
Mouth - Resp exam
Ask patient to open mouth and then use pen torch to look for
Reddening of the pharynx
Tonsil enlargement
Central cyanosis under tounge
