What is inadequate breathing?

What is stridor?
High pitched sound in upper airway sound indicated partial obstruction of trachea or larynx
Signs and symptoms of resp compromise (someone having trouble breathing)
Cyanosis pale flushed skin
Flaring nostril
Wheezing stridor snoring
Tripod position
Oxygen below 95
High or low pulse grabbing at chest
Numbness/tingling in hands feet
Bag valve mask respirations
Adult 10-12/min
Child 12-20/min
What happens to our resp system as we age?
Muscles become less flexible
Effectiveness of cough lessens
Increase of risk of lung infection
Nasal cannula used when ?
Adequate breathing
Speaks full sentences
Alert and calm
Use non rebreather when?
Visibly short of breath
Speaking 3-4 word sentences
Increasing anxiety
Use BVM when?

When do we start artificial ventilations?
When they aren’t breathing, do with CPR

What are some causes of pulmonary edema?
Heart failure
Acute respiratory distress
Adverse drug reactions or drug overdose
Blood clots in the lungs
Hi altitudes, near drowning, smoke in elation, viral infections
Signs and symptoms of pulmonary Edema?
Shortness of breath
Chest pain non-radiating
Cough
Frothy sputum
Sob
Peripheral edema
Shock signs & symptoms 
What are the signs and symptoms of pneumonia
Cough
Fever
Shaking Chills
SOB
Confusion in elderly
Excess sweating clammy skin
Headache
Loss of appetite low energy
Malaise
Sharp stabbing chest pain that gets worse when they take a deep breath or cough
White nail syndrome
What is a pulmonary embolism
A blockage in an artery of the lung
Signs and symptoms of a pulmonary embolism
Chest pain may be worse when breathing in
