3 symptoms of PE
Dyspnoea
Cough
Haemoptysis
Chest pain
Symptome of massive PE
Collapse or dizziness (due to hypoxia)
Respiratory condition that causes fever without being an infection or malignancy
PE
Common signs on examination in PE
Dyspnoea
Tachycardia
Raised JVP
In severe cases there will be signs of hypotension
Scoring system used for PE
Well’s criteria
Gold standard investigation for PE
CTPA
Patient with PE can’t have CTPA immediately, what should you do in meantime
Anticoagulate with LMWH
If Well’s score is low, what further investigation should you do
D-dimer
Followup for patient with unprovoked PE
Investigate for cancer (CT scan)
Anticoagulate (with LMWH, warfarin or DOAC)
