21
Q

Surface markings left lower lobe

A

ribs 5-7 laterally

22
Q

Inferior margin of lower visceral pleura

A

Medially 6th costal, 6th rib MCL, 8th rib MAL and scapular line 10th rib

23
Q

Reasons for chest drain

A

Pneumothorax, haemothorax and pleural effusion

24
Q

Safety triangle for triangle

A

Superiorly axilla and inferiorly 5th ICS

Lateral border of pec major and anterior border of lat Dorsi

25
Q

Where to place needle for chest drain

A

Upper border of rib
Direction of medially upwards
Best if anterior to MAL in order to avoid long thoracic nerve

26
Q

Inferior border of right lung parietal pleura

A

Starts at transverse process of T1 then goes around root of neck. Projects above 1st costal cartilage to inch above medial 1/3 of clavicle. Runs down sternum to 6th costal cartilage and then reflects onto diaphragm above costal margin, goes around thoracic wall. Inferior boundaries are medially 6th costal cartilage, 8th rib MCL, 10th rib MAL, 12th rib and transverse process of L1 vertebral

27
Q

Inferior borders of left lung parietal pleura

A

Starts at transverse process of T1 then goes around root of neck. Projects to left sternoclavicular joint an inch above medial 1/3 of clavicle. Runs down sternum to 4th costal cartilage and deviates to left because of cardiac notch. Inferior boundaries are, 8th rib MCL, 10th rib MAL, 12th rib and transverse process of L1 vertebral

28
Q

Horizontal fissure

A

Runs from 4th CC to meet onlique fissure in MAL

29
Q

Oblique fissure

A

Runs from 6th CC to T3 posteriorly
