DR ABC

D= check for Danger R= check if patient Responds A= check if Airway is clear B= check Breathing C= Call for help then CPR
Ways to see if adult patient is responsive
Call into ear

How to gain view of patients airway
Place palm on forehead and tilt it back with 2 fingers on bony part of chin
How to determine if patient is breathing
Place ear over mouth whilst keeping head tilted backwards and hand on chest to see, touch and feel if patient is breathing
How long do you check if patient is breathing for
No more than 10 seconds
How many compressions are given to adult
30 at a rate of 100-120bpm
How many rescue breaths are given
2- important to see if chest elevates whilst doing this
When to stop CPR
Health professional tells you to

Difference when checking airway of infant
Make sure head is in neutral position not tilted backwards

Get patient to have 1 foot forward and lean forward then with closed fist make blow upwards
