How does orographic rainfall occur?

A
  1. Upland areas force air to rise and cool
  2. Moisture condenses into clouds and creates precipitation
  3. On the leeword side the air sinks warms and hold any moisture left
  4. This creates a “rain shadow area”

  • Water avalibility will be higher
  • Farmland will be irrigated
  • Huge water demand from 200 million people will be solved
  • Cons
  • It could be a boondoggle
  • As China has so many droughts they may not be able tp supply as much water as they think they can.
  • The water could evaportate in the open channels during transportation
  • Wildlife and ecosystems have been badly disturbed
