Climate Change Flashcards
State some ways to reduce affect humans have on climate change
- Alternative Energy Production
- Carbon Capture
- Planting trees
- International agreements
There is a natural greenhouse affect and an unatural greenhouse affect. What is the unatural greenhouse affect called?
Enhanced Greenhouse affect
How do tree rings show climate change is occuring?
If we look at the older rings they are thinner than the newer rings which shows the climate is getting hotter
Ice core samples are show climate change is happening. How?
The older ice is made up of more O18 than O16. The newer ice is made up of more O16 than O18. This shows the rising temperature of the planet.
How does temperature show climate change is happening?
Temperature has been rising dramaticaly.
What are some human factors that affect climate change?
- Fossil Fuel Use
- Deforestation
- Agriculture
What are some natural causes of climate change?
- Orbital changes
- Volcanic Activity
What is the tilt that happens during orbital change that affects climate change?
- Today earths tilt is 23.5°
- It varies from 21.1° and 24.5°
- This cycle lasts for 40,000 years
- The variation in the tilt changes the earths climate
Define Mitigation?
When people reduce the causes of hazard to their lives
Define adaptation
When people respond to change to limit its impacts or take advantage of the change
State some social impacts of climate change?
- Mass migration
- Homelessness due to sea level rise
- Clean water becomes more scarce therefore it costs more
State some enviromental impacts of climate change?
- Species of animal become extinct
- Ecosystems are disrupted
- Temperature rise causes ice caps to melt causing sea levels to rise
State some economic impacts of climate change?
- Prices of food go up as countrys can’t grow their produce
- Prices for fossil fuels goes up
