What are reservations?
A
Small areas of land where Indians would be forced to stay and supervised by the government

Why were Indians out on reservations?
A
So they could be kept away from the homesteaders and ranchers

How were the Indians expected to live on the reservations?
A
As farmers although until 1860s they were allowed to leave the reservations to hunt buffalo

A
Poor quality and difficult to survive on
