Directional
There are 3 types of hypothesis. Directional, Null and ….
Non Directional
Another name for a directional hypothesis is….
One tailed
Another name for a non -directional hypothesis is….
A two-tailed
Which type of Hypothesis will you never be asked to write in an exam
Null
What is a directional hypothesis?
States what the difference is between conditions (so does include language like -more, less, higher, lower, faster, slower etc)
What is a non-directional hypothesis?
States there will be a difference but doesnt say what the difference will be (so doesnt have words like higher lower more less etc)
What is a null hyopthesis
There will be NO significant difference between the conditions
What is meant by a hypothesis?
A specific and testable statement where the researcher predicts what is going to happen
Pick out the word that makes this hypothesis a directional.
‘Participants who drink a 75cl can of Red Bull will have significantly faster reactions times (seconds) on a hazard perception test than participants who drink 75cl of water.
faster
Name the type of hypothesis
There will be significantly higher scores on a happiness questionnaire from participants who eat a 75g bar of dairy milk in comparison to participants who eat a plain rice cake.
Directional
When would you write a directional hypothesis?
When previous research has shown the direction that the results will go in
When would you decide to write a non-directional hypothesis?
When there is no previous research
When its a new area of research
When previous research’s results have been mixed
How do you start a directional hypothesis?
There will be a higher/lower/more/less/ etc
