Research Methods Flashcards
follow experimental steps but no control group
One shot case study, one group pretest/posttest, static group comparison
Pre-experimental designs
follow experimental steps but no randomization
Pretest posttest nonequivalent group, time series, nonequivalent before/after
Quasi-experimental designs
follow steps, uses control group, and measures change in both groups
Post equivalent groups study, pretest posttest, Soloman four group
True experimental designs
are measurements dependent variable influenced by tx or other variables
Internal validity
how confidently can experimental findings be generalized
experimental validity
document casual or functional relationship between variables
o Predicted change occurs at 3 different points in time
single-subject design
replication
external validity
DV socially important, magnitude is important, reasonable intervention
social validity
• Attempt is made to find cause or explanation for existing differences between groups
• 2 or more groups and one variable
• Research groups have already been differentiated
• There is no intervention, manipulation, random assignment
• 3 conditions for establishing cause/effect
o Presumed cause must precede effect
o Relationship must be statistically significant
o Other probable causes must be eliminated
Casual-comparative
