What is the difference between a Theory & an Hypothesis?

A
  • A theory is a general set of principles explaining a phenomena
  • A hypothesis is more specific than a theory (educational guess)

What are 3 ways psychologist collect data. Give some examples

  1. Observational methods
    - Direct observation (vision)(can intervene)
    - Naturalistic observation (vision)(can’t intervene)
    - Mediated observation (use of equipment to observe something that cant be viewed; ex EEG)
  2. Verbal
    - Surveys
    - Interviews
  3. Psychological test
    - Assess individuals standings on other behavioral characteristics; ex IQ test
