Research Hypothesis Flashcards
Aim of Research
A broad statement that says the purpose of the study.
Alternative Hypothesis
A testable statement that supports or reject the study.
Null Hypothesis
States there is no difference/ relationship between variables (if there is, it will be by chance).
Co-variables
2 or more quantities being measured in a correlation.
Operationalisation of variables
A precise definition of behaviour being measured/ recorded/ observed, which allows repititon and raises reliability.
Dependent variables
Variables that are measured by the psychologist.
Independent variables
Variables that are manipulated by the psychologist.
Directional Hypothesis
States the IV will affect the DV, in 1 specific direction.
Non-directional Hypothesis
States the IV will affect the DV, but does not state a specific direction.
