Required Practical: Waves In Solid Flashcards
Equipment needed
String on a clamp attacked to a vibration generator connected to signal generator to change frequency of vibration
Other end is hanging mass to keep it taut
Standing wave
The point where they make 2 loops
Step 1
Measure length of standing wave using ruler
From wooden bridge to vibrating generator
Step 3
Calculate wave speed
Frequency = from the signal generator
Wavelength = what we measure
Multiply these together = wave speed
Step 4
Increase wavelength so standing wave changes
To 3 half wavelengths
Step 5
Calculate wave speed
Wavelength = what we measured dividing by number of half wavelengths and x 2
Frequency = from generator
Multiply together
Conclusion
Wave speed of string doesn’t depend upon frequency or wavelength
But the taughtness of the string
Calculating wavelength of standing wave
Divide number by total number of half wavelengths
Multiply by 2
