Required Practical P1 Flashcards
1
Q
Équipement for making soluable salt
A
- Bunsen burner
- tripod
- gauze
- beaker
- dilute sulphuric acid (limiting)
2
Q
Soluable salts practical
A
- heat dilute sulphuric acid on set up until almost boiling
- add amounts of copper oxide and stir w a glass rod
- solution will turn blue and keep adding when powder remains showing acid is now in excess
- filter out unreacted copper oxide using filtration
- take the copper sulphate solution and heat it in an evaporating dish over a beaker
- take out and leave in a cool place for crystals to form
- take out crystals and pat dry
3
Q
How to do electrolysis
A
- put about 50cm of the Aqueous solution in the liquid
- put a pétri dish over w two holes for the electrodes
- put electrodes clipped to a power pack ag around 4v
4
Q
Rules for elevtrokysis
A
At anode- halogen is discharged and if no halogen it’s always OH-
At cathode- always H+ unless it’s something less reactive than hydrogen eg copper
5
Q
Temp change practical
A
- measure 30cm of hydrochloric acid
- answer this to a cup
- put cup in beaker
- add a thermometer to record temp of acid
- measure 5cm of sodium hydroxide and add to polastyrine cup
- add lid to top of beaker cup thing
- stir solution with thermometer
- measure highest temp reached
- REPEAT WHOLE using 5cm more of sodium hydroxide until 40cm
- REAPEAT AGAIN for two sets of results
6
Q
Point of temp change practical
A
- it’s an endothermic reaction so energu and temp increases as there is more sodium hydroxide solution
