What are gonads?
Organs in males and females that produced egg and sperm cells
What is sexual reproduction?
Ovum+ the sperm cell= embryo
What are female gonads?
Ovaries
What is fertilization and where does it occur?
Sperm travel into the fallopian tube and penetrate the ovum it occurs in the ovum leaves the ovary and travels down one of the two fallopian tube’s leading to uterus
What is implantation?
Embryo adheres to the wall of the uterus
What is a zygote?
Fertilized ovum
What is an embryo?
Zygote becomes an embryo from 2-8 weeks
What is a fetus?
8 weeks to delivery
What is another word for pregnancy?
Qestation
What is ovulation?
An ovum matures and the follicle ruptures through the surface and releases the ovum from the ovary
What is the corpus lutes?
Ruptured follicle fills with yellow, fat-like material
What is the menarche?
First menstrual period
What is menopause?
All eggs have been released, hormone production diminishes and mensuration ends
What is finbriae?
Catch the egg after it’s released from the ovary
What is the inner most layer of the uterus called?
Endometrium
What is the name given to the external genitalia of the female?
Vulva
What is the name of the area between the opening of the vagina and the anus?
Perineum
What is the main component of the mammary glands?
Breast
Describe the stages of the menstrual cycle:
One–five days: Discharge of uterine lining
Six-Twelve days: Endomebtrium repaires itself
Thirteen-Fourteen days: ovulating period
Fifteen -twenty eight days: progesterone builds up whining in anticipation of fertilization when no fertilization occurs= menstrual cycle
What is a placenta?
A vascular organ attached to the uterine wall
What is anatomic fluid?
Fluid the fetus is suspended in within the anatomic cavity
What is HCG and when is it released?
Hormone produced by the placenta
What are the male gonads?
Testes
