What is the difference between endocrine and exocrine glands?
Endocrine- Hormones within the body
Exocrine- move subs to outside sebum sweat tears milk
What are the major glands in the Endocrine system?
Hypothalamus and Pituitary - Brain Ovaries and testes - Gonads Thyroid - Neck Adrenal- Kidneys Parathyroid- back of thyroid Pancreas- Abdomen
Which gland is the “boss” or “president” gland?
Hypothalamus
Which gland is the “VP” or “Master” gland?
Pituitary
Which gland secretes releasing hormones?
Hypothalamus releases hormones
Which gland secretes stimulating hormones:?
Thyroid stimulates hormones
What are the 3 hormones that the thyroid gland secretes and what are their purposes?
T4 and T3- controls metabolism
Calcitonin- calcium regulation in to bones
What hormones are secreted from the parathyroid gland and what is its purpose?
Parathyroid glands hormone is parathyroid hormone-> calcium is movable-> blood from bone
What are two parts of the adrenal gland?
Adrenal Cortex- outside
Adrenal medulla- middle
What is secreted from the adrenal cortex?
Secretes cortisol = stress hormone
What is secreted from the pancreas?
Insulin- released when high Blood glucose
How does the pancreas control blood glucose?
Low BG -breaks up glucagon stores in liver- high BG
What hormones are secreted from the ovaries and what are their purposes?
Ovaries= estrogen -> gives female characteristics Ovaries= Progesterone-> preps uterus for pregnancy
What is produced from the testes?
Testosterone
