What are the symptoms of PCOS?
- Irregular periods

What are fibroids of uterus?
- benign smooth muscle tumours of the uterus
- can be cause of infertility
What is endometriosis?
- condition is when endometrium is in the wrong place
- adenomyosis is refers to when endometriosis is in the wall of the uterus
What are the symptoms of endometriosis?
- intermittent abdominal pain
- difficulty getting pregnant
- small red/brown lesions on peritoneal surface on laparoscopy
- endometrium can be anywhere so symptoms change deepening on where in bowel may have obstruction
hydatidiform mole symptoms and test results?
- severe vomiting, missed period, pregnancy test positive
- Ultrasound showing no foetal pole
- uterus enlarged with cavity filled with small cystic lesions
- Irregular periods
- severe acne
- excessive fascial hair
- high BMI
Diagnosis?
PCOS
histology will show cysts in ovaries and high level of testosterone
What is the primary predisposing factor to ectopic pregnancy?
Pelvic inflammatory disease
Define gestational trophoblastic disease and what diseases does this include?
Pregnancy related tumours
- molar pregnancy (benign) can have complete or incomplete
- invasive molar
- choriocarcinoma
What are examples of retained products of conception?
- Placental tissue
- Blood clot
- Foetal tissue

- Placental tissue

Describe histology of molar pregnancy?
- swollen chorionic villi
- get central syncitiotrophoblastic proliferating cells rather than at one pole
Where is the most common location of ectopic pregnancy?
Fallopian tube
foetus will have to be removed (emergency)
What is salpingitis?
Inflammation of the Fallopian tubes
What is pelvic inflammatory disease?
- Infection of female reproductive organs
- usually caused by STI
- Common cause fo infertility
- often causes inflammation in fallopian
What is salpingitis medusa?
- often following inflammation
- thickened wall of Fallopian tube
- multiple invagination of Fallopian tube endothelium
- (also called diverticulosis of fallopian tube)
- Cause of infertility
