Clams and steady uterus
Activates beta 2 receptors to activate CNS to suppress labour
may be given for 48 hours to suppress labour

Oxytocin

A

Induce labour and stimulates contractions
administer 6-12 hours after last dos of dinoprostone which is a cervical ripening drug
Monitor contractions very closely
Contractions should be less than 60 seconds happening 2-3 minutes apart

Discontinue if contractions last longer than 60
Piggy back oxytocin into main IV line

priority action for 3 consecutive late decelerations = turn off oxytocin

Turn the client to the side if lake decelerations are noted
