Reproductive Flashcards
1
Q
Cryptoorchidism
A
Undescended testicles
Persistently undescended testicles can lead to oligospermia, infertility, and testicular neoplasia
Spont. descent after 3mo is unlikely –> surgical correction
2
Q
Testicular Torsion
A
Testicle rotates and strangulates spermatic cord and vascular supply
Acute onset excruciating unilateral pain +/- N/V
Use Testicular US to differentiate between torsion and epididymitis
3
Q
Hydrocele/Varicocele
A
Hydrocele - communicating (patent tunica vag. with fluid) non-com (obliterated tunica vag. with fluid trapped in scrotum)
- most resolve spontaneously in 12mo (observe)
- persistent might require surgical closure to prevent novel herniation and incarceration
Varicocele - abnormally dilated pampiniform venous plexus, MC on the left, “bag of worms”
