renal replacement therapy Flashcards
haemodialysis
regular filtration blood through dialysis machine in hospital
need AV fistula created 8wks before commencal haemodialysis
indications for acute dialysis
acidosis electrolyte abnormalities oedema uraemia intoxication
peritoneal dialysis
filtration occurs in abdomen
dialysis solution injected into abdomen, the high dextrose conc. draws waste products from blood into abdo cavity
after several hrs the dialysis solution is drained (removing waste products) and exchanged for new dialysis solution
continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis
dialysis solution in abdo at all times
each exchange 30-40min and each dwell time 4-8hrs
automated peritoneal dialysis
occurs overnight
dialysis machine fills and drains abdo whilst patient sleeping
8-10hrs
main complication peritoneal dialysis
peritoneal dialysis peritonitis
peritoneal dialysis peritonitis
caused by staph epidermis
abdo pain, fever, cloudy dialysis bag
antib
complications of haemodialysis
CVS disease fistula complications hypotension amyloidosis dialysis disequillibrium syndrome
Dialysis disequilibrium syndrome
acute cerebral oedema due to rapid extraction of osmotically active substances
