Renal Diseases Flashcards
azotemia
decreased tubular excretion of nitrogen (increase nitrogen in blood)
hydronephrosis
most commonly caused by prostate problems or ureter stones (back up of water into kidneys)
kidney stones
“Nephrolithiasis”
most common stone is CALCIUM OXALATES
kidney stone pain patter= starts in back and radiates to the flanks
once stone is in ureters, pain localizes in groin
nephritic syndrome
RBCs and small amounts of protein in the urine
ex: acute glomerulonephritis
Nephrotic syndrome
“Pre-eclampsia”= “HEP”
hypertension, edema, proteinurea (massive)
Eclampsia=HEP + convulsions +coma= potentially fatal
can’t pull water into the blood stream
Polycystic kidney
moth eaten appearance
cysts within kidneys
shock
acute tubular necrosis
hypovolumic shock
Wilm’s
“NEPHROBLASTOMA”
mixed tumor of kidney in children (malignant)
