Marital sex
Sex should be within marriage, it is a gift from God.
Unitive sex
Sex unites a couple and deepens the relationship, making them closer and more committed
Procreative sex
God creates new life through sex, and marriages need to be open to procreation. “Be fruitful and multiply”.
Sex before marriage
The Church believes that premarital sex is wrong as it devalues the act, while modern society tends to disagree
Requirements for Catholic marriage
Vows, a priest, consent, open to procreation, register, cant be incest
Catholic views on adultery
It breaks the vows and the 10 commandments, causes hurt, destroys trust
Catholic views on cohabitation
Breaks the sanctity of marriage and can reduce the need for faithfulness
Catholic views on divorce
Breaks the vows, breaks promises to God, the vow ‘till death do us part’ makes divorce impossible
Catholic views on remarriage
Catholics can’t remarry unless the original partner is dead or the first marriage was annulled, anyone who has another relationship can’t take communion
Annulment
When a marriage is ended because it didn’t meet one or more of the requirements (it was invalid in the first place)
Catholic view on homosexuality
The church accepts some people are homosexual, but believes that homosexual acts are a sin
Contraception
Preventing pregnancy and/or STDs during sex through artificial methods. The Church is against it.
Sanctity of life
The belief that God creates us all in his image, to be equal and that the ending of any life unnecessarily is wrong
Catholic views on family
Should be procreative, be secure for children, should educate children, parents should be the authority
Catholic views on roles in the family (traditionally)
Husbands should love thier wives, wives should be subject to their husbands, children should obey their parents
