Parts of the Thorax
Pleural (space surrounding the lungs) and pericardial sac (space surrounding the heart). Form the thoracic cavity which makes up the the thorax.
Surrounds the abdominal and pelvic cavity
Peritoneal cavity (abdominal region)
Attachment of the upper and lower extremities.
Girdles
Upper and lower extremities.
Limbs
What is the standard anatomic position
Supinated. Upright with arms to the side and palms forward.
Above the point of reference
Superior
Towards the head
Cranial
Face (towards nose)
Rostral
Below the point of reference (beneath)
Inferior
Towards the tail.
Caudal
In front of the point of reference. Closer.
Anterior
Towards the stomach/abdomen
Ventral
Behind the point of reference, further.
Posterior
Means the same as posterior but it is more general. Towards the back.
Dorsal
Towards the midline
Medial
