Moving something away from the body.
Abduct
Bring something closer to the body/towards.
Adduct
Move an extremity about an axis so that the distal end delineates a circle while the proximal end stays fixed.
Circumduct
Turn or hold a hand, foot, or limb so that the palm or sole is facing downward or inward.
Pronate
Turn or hold a hand, foot, or limb so that the palm or sole is facing upward or outward.
Supinate
Backward bending and contracting of hand or foot. Extension of the foot at the ankle and hand at the wrist.
Dorsiflex
Movement of the foot in a downward motion away from the body.
Plantarflex
Tilting the sole of the foot away from the midline (sideways)
Eversion
Tilting of the sole of the foot inwards towards the midline (sideways)
Inversion
Stick out a part of the body. Example: rolling shoulders forward.
Protract
Opposite of protraction, which refers to bringing the protracted part back into its original position. Example: rolling shoulders backwards.
Retraction
A turning away or aside from the normal point or course.
Deviation
Towards the primary organ (inward).
Veins carry blood toward the heart.
Sensory neurons transmit signals toward the brain (sensory afferents).
Afferent
AFFERENT ARRIVES
Away from the primary organ (outwards).
Arteries carry blood away from the heart.
Motor neurons transmit signals away from the brain (motor efferents).
