1832 boroughs and counties
-56 boroughs in England and Wales were disenfranchised completely with another 30 losing one of their two MPs
-42 new borough constituencies were created
-Scotland given 8 extra seats, Ireland 5
1867 boroughs and counties
-45 seats were taken from boroughs with less than 10,000 people, 7 were disenfranchised
-25 of these seats went to counties, 20 went to new boroughs, 6 existing boroughs got an extra seat and 1 seat was reserved for the University of London
1832 voting requirements (counties)
-In the counties, the vote was now given to adult males who owned copyhold land worth £10 a year or rented land worth £50 a year, in addition to the existing 40-shilling freeholder

-In boroughs the vote was made uniform and now given to adult males who either owned or rented property worth £10 a year if they paid all relevant taxes, had been in possession of property for at least one year and not received poor relief in the previous year

-Existing voters could also retain the franchise but not pass on this right to heirs
-Voters were required to be registered
1867 voting requirements (boroughs)
-In the boroughs, all male householders provided they have lived there for at least a year and lodgers who occupied property worth at least £10 for at least 1 year
1867 voting requirements (counties)
-In the counties, in addition to the existing franchise, all owners or leaseholders of land worth £5 a year
1832 electorate
-The electorate rose from 366,000 to 650,000 which equated to 18% of the male population compared to the 11% before
1867 electorate
-Enfranchised more than 1 million of the working class
-Proved that the members of the WC had their own minds and would vote if they saw fit
-Voting population grew to 1/3 of adult males
1832 impact
-Did not create democracy but removed the obvious injustices of the old system
1867 impact
-Immediate electoral defeat for Disraeli in 1868
-Promoted a more diverse electorate
-Voters in 1832 were mostly middle class and conservative, but the 1867 Act extended to many of the urban skilled working class
