reflection and refraction Flashcards

Q

explain the steps of reflection

A

A) Light rays travel in a straight line
The light ray that hits a reflective surface is called an incident ray
B)When a ray bounces off a reflective surface, it is reflected
C)The normal is straight line perpendicular to the reflective surface
D)The angle of incidence is formed by the incident ray and the normal
E)The angle of reflection is opposite to the angle of incidence and is formed by the reflected ray and the normal.

Q

what is reflection

A

it is when the waves encounter a surface or other boundary that does not absorb the energy of the radiation and bounces the waves away from the surface.

Q

what is refraction

A

Refraction is when light rays deviate when they pass from one material to another material with a different density. Light deviates from its path because it changes speed when it comes into a different material.

Q

what are the steps of refraction

A

A) When light ray hits different material, its is called an incident ray
B) When a ray penetrates a different material, it is refracted (bent)
C) The normal is the line that is perpendicular to the surface
D) The angle of incidence is formed by the incident ray and the normal
E) The angle of refraction is formed by the refracted ray and the normal.
