anatomy of the eye Flashcards

1
Q

what does the eye do

A

It receives light and transforms it into a nerve impulse. Nerve impulse is carried by the optic nerve and cranial nerves to the area of the brain responsible for visual processing.

Q

Vitreous humour

A

its a clear gelatinous liquid that occupies the back of the eye. It exerts pressure on the eye to keep its shape and holds the lens and retina in place.

Q

Retina

A

it is a membrane composed of receptor cells that are sensitive to light. It turns light waves into nerve impulses using rodes and cones, which are composed of sensory nerves. Cones detect colour and rods detect shape.
