anatomy of central nervous system Flashcards
1
Q
brain
A
- made up of 2 hemispheres
- It is composed of grey matter which processes information.
- White matter (inside) transmits information through the nerve impulses.
- it analyses information and it produces nerve impulses to stimulate muscles.
2
Q
cerebellum
A
- Similar composition to the brain and sits right under it.
- controls the movement and balance.
- receives information on movements that a person wants to make and then analyzes the body and muscle position, with balance information from the inner ear to allow that movement to happen.
3
Q
brain stem
A
- It is positioned under the brain and connects it to the spinal cord.
- It controls the vital organs and acts as a gateway between the brain and the spinal cord.
4
Q
spinal cord
A
- a long string of nerves that extends from the brain stem to the lower back.
- protected by the vertebrae and transmits messages from the brain to the motor nerves.
- Transmits information from the sensory nerves to the brain.
