Why do we need salvation?
Adam and Eve committed the original sin in Genesis which broke the relationship with God, salvation fixed that
What does the Catechism of the Catholic Church say?
‘human beings are saved by Jesus’ life on earth, his death, resurrection and ascension’
Christians believe that:
.Humans rejected God by their sins, humans are important to God so he sent Jesus to free humans from the effects of their sinfulness
.Their relationship with God depends on Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Without it, they can not be close to God or obtain forgiveness of their sins
.They need to repent, ask God for forgiveness and accept Jesus as the son of God and savior
What is grace?
Grace is the love and mercy shown by God because God wants people to have it, not because we deserve it
What did Jesus do in his life?
.Showed people what God was like and how to live
.Taught us that God is a loving father
.Love is at the heart of the gospel message
.Jesus spent his life with the poor and needy
How is Jesus death usually explained?
.Through the idea of sacrifice
.In the bible, animal sacrifice was common
.The person making the sacrifice hopes to mend their relationship with God
.Jesus’ sacrifice made up for the sins of human beings in a way that other sacrifices could not
What does the resurrection show?
.Proves he was the son of God, only God can conquer death
.Resurection demonstrates that Jesus is their savior
What is the significance of the ascension?
.Jesus’ mission of earth was done
.Returns to heaven to prepare a place for his followers
.Prepared a way for the holy spirit to come to earth
Explain a loving God’s mercy
.Humans have free will so have to choose how they will spend their lives
.If a person chooses to do evil they will be far from God, even if God wants to be close to him
.Gods love in unconditional but we have to accept it, it can not be forced upon us
.God can only offer salvation, we have to accept it
