What does the catechism of the catholic church define prayer as?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines prayer as ‘raising the mind and heart to God’. This means being totally focused on God.
What is prayer for Catholics?
For Catholics, prayer is communicating with God, they pray together through worship (most commonly mass). This is public worship but they can pray on their own, called private worship.
Difference between formulaic and extempore prayer
Formulaic prayer is pre prepared prayers that have been passed down, such as the Lord’s Prayer. And extempore prayer is them speaking their own words and mind, not prepared and much more spontaneous.
How do Catholics pray for and help the dead?
Catholics have a long tradition of praying for the dead –
.Ask God to welcome the deceased into his presence so they can have eternal life in heaven
.A Catholic might ask a priest to offer a mass to a dead friend or relative. Their name may be mentioned in the Eucharistic prayer
