What is ‘particular judgement’?
.When we dies, God passes judgement on our soul – this is called ‘particular judgement’

.Each person is responsible for their own actions
.There will be a final judgement where the whole of creation will be judged

What is heaven according to Catholics?
.If you’ve lived a holy life you will be rewarded with heaven

What is hell according to Catholics?
.A place or state of being where unrepentant sinners go after death
.Someone who doesn’t regret what they’ve done wrong and refuses God’s offer of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus

Why is hell sometimes a difficult concept for people to grasp? And what is the answer?
.Would an all loving God send people to hell? He is just as fair as he is loving, people need to be punished
What is purgatory according to Catholics?
.Those who have died need to be prepared for the change
.Transferred from sinfulness of this world to purity of the next
. ‘Purge’ means to get rid of sin
.Not good enough for heaven but not bad enough for hell go here to prepare them for heaven
What did St Paul say about Purgatory?
.St Paul said ‘It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.’
How can people help the souls in purgatory?
.Catholics can help the souls in purgatory by praying for them
What happens in the parable of the unforgiving servant and what is the meaning?
.Jesus tells of a man who owes money to the king
.Not wanting to go to prison he begs the king for mercy
.After being forgiven and now free from debt he goes and finds a man that owes him money
.The man asks for mercy but is denied it
.The king is furious and puts the first man in prison till he pays what he owes
.Basically God has forgiven us, so we must also forgive, or we will end up in purgatory
What happens in the the story of the rich man and Lazarus and what is the meaning?
.A rich man lives a life of luxury but ignores Lazarus, the beggar at his gate
.Lazarus dies and is taken to heaven, all the while the rich man dies and is taken to hell
.The rich man asks for comfort but is denied since he denied Lazarus it in the past life
.Everyone will be judged on how they have lived their lives and rewarded or punished accordingly
