What is recruitment
The steps undertaken by a business to identify a vacancy and attract suitable candidates
What is a job description
A recruitment document that outlines the tasks and responsibilities of the job
What is a person specification
Outlines the characteristics of the person required to do the job
What is internal recruitment
When candidates for a position are recruited from within the organisation
What are the benefits of internal recruitment
Lower costs, improved promotion aspects, known abilities of candidates, quicker process and shorter induction period
What are the disadvantages of internal recruitment
Reduces talent available, limits number of applicants and can cause friction between internal candidates
What is external recruitment
When candidates for a position are recruited from outside of the organisation
What are the benefits of external recruitment
Increased talent available, increase number of applicants and provide new sources of ideas to the company
What are the disadvantages of external recruitment
Higher recruitment costs, may upset internal candidates, never seen candidates in a work environment before
What is job analysis
The process of gathering all of the available information about a particular job
