Clinical use of cocaine?
Used as a local anaesthetic in eye surgery, causes vasoconstriction.
Name the three metabolites of cocaine as well as how they are formed.
•Benzoylecgonine which is formed from spontaneous hydrolysis.
•Ecgonine methyl ester which is formed from metabolism by pseudocholinesterase.
•Norcocaine which is formed from metabolism by the p450 system.
Effects of cocaine (4)
Vasoconstrictive, neurotoxic, cardiotoxic and dsyrhythmogenic

Blockage of reuptake of biogenic amines.
Blockage of sodium channel.
