- resting and recovery heart rate after exercise: reduce risk heat attack/ stroke
- blood pressure: reduces risk of heart attack/ stroke
- maintaining health weight: reduce risk of diabetes due to obesity
- eating balanced diet: reduces chance of obesity + maintain healthy weight
- physical activity: improve fitness/ muscle strength/ mobility
- quit smoking: reduces risk of related cancers (lung cancer)
- sensible alcohol consumption: improves sleep quality
- stop substance abuse: stop cannabis reduces depression, stop cocaine reduces risk of heart attack
Formal support - available when following recommendations to improve health and wellbeing:
Formal support: from professionals, trained volunteers, support groups, charities
- practical support: GP diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, referrals. Community nurse provide medical care and health monitoring eg blood pressure/ weight
- Emotional support: incouragement at slimming clubs improve motivation+ chance of success
- community/ public health services: provide evidence based info and advice making informed life decisions
- treatment plans: structures plan for quitting smoking, drugs, alcohol - strategies to reduces usage/ consumption. Nicotine replacement therapy: patches, gum, lozenges, nasal sprays. Dietary plans to manage conditions eg diabetes or high blood pressure
Informal support - available when following recommendations to improve health and wellbeing:
Informal support: form friends, family, neighbours, community, work colleagues.
- Aids: lending scales/ exercise equipment
- practical support: cooking healthy meals, attending exercise classes together, attending meetings together.
- advice: how tackle issue/ know what to change
- emotional support: family encouragement, friend watching film at home, family going on diet at same time, sharing concerns with someone aware of persons circumstances.
