Receptors Flashcards
where are free nerve endings located?
epidermis and bottom of hair follicles
where are free nerve endings located?
epidermis and bottom of hair follicles
what do free nerve endings detect
temeperature, pain, movement and light pressure
What are tactile disc structure
Free nerve nedings with merkel cells on end
where are tactile disc located
basal layer of the epidermis (lots in fingertip)
what is tactile discs function
two point discrimination. textures, shapes, edges, fine touch and light pressure.
(Why they are found in fingertips)
What are tactile corpuscles structure
Unmyelinated terminals surrounded by schwann cells and a capsule.
when deformed it triggers an action potential
What is tactile corpuscles location
papillary layer of the dermis (mostly found in hairless skin)
what is tactile corpuscles function
Delicate/ fine touch. texture and shape. can detect the change so good for reading braille. light pressure and low frequency vibration
What is lamellar corpuscles structure
single dendrite with layers of collagen seperated by gel. the deformation of this capsule sends AP.
Where are lamellar corpuscles found
deep in the dermis and hypodermis
Lamellar corpuscles function
deep pressure, vibration
rapid adaption - sense change then shut off
Structure of bulbous corpuscles
dendrites intertwined with collagen continuous with surround tissue surrounded by capsule
Bulbous corpuscle location
dermis and hypodermis
Bulbous corpuscles function
Stretch receptors - high density around finger nails
