0-3 months
Quiets to a speaker and attends to the speakers mouth. Discriminate between happy and anger voices.
3-6 months
Searches for someone’s voice, searches for sound other than voice. The child by this point will also respond to know at least 50% of the time, and will respond to its name. Child should stop crying in response to voice (when spoken to), and will cry in response to anger. Anticipates feeding.
6-9 months
Response to know most of the time by this point and response to goodbye by waving. The child will also respond to “what? “With gestures. Recognize his family names, response to the sounds that are not visible. But how old will stop when it’s name is spoken. At this point the child will begin to attend to pictures, but only briefly.
9-12 months
This is where we begin to see more receptive language growth. The child will attend to new words, is able to identify at least two of his own body parts, give objects on command, and will follow simple requests occasionally. The child will also respond to simple questions without the aid of gestures, and will verbalize/vocalize in response to questions.
12-15 months
Will follow simple one step commands. Is able to point to 1 to 3 body parts, and is able to point to 2 action words when illustrated. The child is beginning to understand prepositions (in/on).
15-18 months
Understand approximately 50 words. Receptively identifies two or more objects in a group. We members and associates new words by category. Carries out simple two-step directions, and understands simple questions.
18-21 months
Understanding is able to 5 body parts or common objects on a person. Understands action words, and will not listen to simple stories and will identify pictures when prompted. By this point, the child is able to accurately answer yes/no questions.
21-24 months
I’m available to understand approximately 300 words, and can follow simple to the three-step commands as long as the steps are related (pick up the ball and roll it to me). The child of able to understand complex sentences, like “when we go to the grocery store, I will buy you an ice cream cone.” Object permanence of fully acquired, and the child is able to select one item in the field at five with instruction.
24-27 minutes
The child is now able to listen to a 5 to 10 minutes story. That’s how they both want to stand concept of size, like small and big. The child also understands all or one.
27-30 months
Associates words with function: “what do you eat with?” Responds accurately to wh- questions. Understands location phrases (in the kitchen). Recognizes the name of most common objects and is able to understand about 500 words.
30-33 months
The child increases reading time to 20 minutes. Knows in/on/under and is able to match colors. Understands big and little, and other common adjectives. Understands all common verbs and is able to understand long, complex sentences.
33-36 months
The child knows hens gender and the difference and the third person: he, she, it. The child is able to understand common danger, like the stairs. The child completes three verbal commands. The child understands about 900 words. Shows interest in explanation of why and how.
3-4 YO
Understands descriptive concepts and is able to identify all colors. Additionally, the child is able to compare and group objects and make inferences. Understands negation and identifies pictures when named.
4-5 YO
Understands spatial, quantity, and time concepts. Follows complex directions.
5-6 YO
Understands “er” as someone that does something, eg: gardner, firefighter. Understands time and sequence concepts. Understands noun + two modifying adjectives: white fluffy dog.
