REASON-Intro Flashcards
what is rationalism
reason itself can be a source of knowledge through using a priori synthetic knowledge and can be innate
what is empircism
experience and evidence from the senses provide us with our knowledge
what is innatism
the idea that some of our concepts or knowledge is not derived from experience but is not of the mind
a priori
knowledge before experience
a posteriori
knowledge after sense experience
analytic
a proposition that is true purely because of the meaning of the word ( not adding anything to our experience of the word) -e.g squares have four sides
synthetic
a proposition that isn’t analytic and tells us something about how the world is e.g. many ripe tomatoes are red
contingent
could be true or false e.g. “i am in 341”- had different things happened this would not be the case
