Preview
Look at the first page of the book/chapter. Read any quotes and scan through the list of articles in this book/chapter. Then flip through the rest of the book/chapter. Look at headings (printed in bold type) and pictures for clues. No actual reading is necessary at this point! Just scan.
Outline
Create a simple outline by making a list of major headings or pictures in this book/chapter. (Just list titles of articles-not Journal Entries or exercises
Question
Turn each heading you wrote down into a question. Don’t worry about writing the perfect question. There are several possibilities for each heading, so just experiment.
Read
Now read the rest of this book/chapter. As you read, look for answers to your questions and write them down.
Outline
Be selective about how much you underline. If you can’t write in the book, copy down these sentences in your notes and write down which page they are on if the book has page numbers.
Answer

Review and review
Scan the passages you underlined and then answer your list of questions again, this time write down the answers to your questions. Repeat this step within 24 hours.
