Reaction time - Acquiring movement skills Flashcards
What is reaction time?
Reaction time is the time between Presentation of stimulus and start of movement
Presentation of stimulus e.g Gun at the start of a 100m sprint race.
Start of movement e.g Pushing of foot off block.
What is Movement time?
The time between the start of movement and the end of movement.
Start of movement e.g Pushing of foot off block
End of movement e.g crossing of the finish line
What is Response time ?
The time between all
Presentation of stimulus e.g Gun at the start of a 100m sprint race.
Start of movement e.g Pushing of foot off block
End of movement e.g crossing of the finish line
How does Temperature effect reaction time?
Warm up increases body temperature = faster reaction time
How does Age effect reaction time?
Over the age of 25 reaction time gets slower
How does Anticipation effect reaction time?
Predicting stimulus will speed up reactions
How does Gender effect reaction time?
Females have a slower reaction time than males
What is Anticipation?
Predicting where and when something will take place before it happens?
What is Spatial anticipation?
Anticipating where the goalkeeper will be
What is Temporal anticipation?
Anticipating when the gun is shot at the start of a race
Correctly predicting what will happen leads to?
Improved performance
Wrongly predicting what will happen leads to?
Decreased performance
