Anatomy and physiology - Muscular contraction types Flashcards
1
Q
What are the three types of muscle contractions ?
A
- Concentric
- Eccentric
- Isometric
2
Q
What happens when there is a concentric muscle contraction ?
A
- The muscle shortens and develops tension
- Causes join movement (Agonist)
3
Q
What happens when there is a Eccentric muscle contraction?
A
- The muscle lengthens to develop tension
- Controls the movement
- Downward/Negative phase
- Resist gravity
4
Q
What happens when there is an isometric muscle contraction?
A
- When a muscle produces tension but stays the same length
- The body is fixed in one position.
