Anatomy and Physiology - Positive effects of physical activity on the skeletal system Flashcards
1
Q
What’s the effects of PBD?
A
- Bone thickness increases
- There is a varied line of stress, this increases the calcium deposits and decreases chance of injury.
2
Q
What is Osteoporois?
A
Osteoporosis is a degenerative bone disease. It usually effects elderly people but sometimes can effect young people too. Particularly effects the spine.
3
Q
What’s the positive effects of joint stability ?
A
- Increased thickness of Articular cartlidge acts as shock absorber and this reduces friction
- Increased strength of ligaments e.g 5y ligament at hip
- Increased lubrication of joint, increased secretion of synovial fluid and this increases mobility.
- Increased strength of surrounding muscles of jopints, e.g rectus femoris/knee.
4
Q
What’s the positive effect of weight management?
A
Less body fat and reduced stress on joints e.g knee joints
5
Q
What’s the effects of posture and alignment ?
A
- Core stability muscles are strenghtned multi fids and transverse abdominal preventing slouching
- Prevents injury
