rates of reaction - catalysts Flashcards
what do catalysts do?
spread up rate of reaction but are not used up during the reaction so it is reusable
what is the importance of a catalyst?
allows us to carry out reactions quickly without needing to increase temperature. this saves money
how do catalysts increase rate of reaction?
they provide a different pathway for reaction that has lower activation energy
If a catalyst is present, what does this do for the particles?
they require less energy to overcome the activation barrier so more particles will have successful collins per second meaning rate of reaction will increase
what don’t you include catalyst in?
chemical reaction formula as they aren’t used up like a reactant
Different reactions need…..
different catalysts
what do enzymes do?
act as catalysts in living organisms
