What is a rapid infusion catheter?
A
“RIC” line
- Large bore catheter (7 or 8.5F) inserted into large vein centrally or peripherally
- Used with large haemorrhage to avoid exsanguination

Why are RIC lines used?
A
- The large diameter allows large quantities of fluid to be administered quickly with low resistance

What preparation is a RIC line used for?
A
- Similar to central line
- Can be inserted where an existing 20+g cannula is in situ.
