Haemodynamic Monitoring Flashcards
1
Q
What is haemodynamic monitoring?
A
- Assessment of circulating blood volume, cardiac function, response to treatment and tissue perfusion
- Used to evaluate response to treatment
- Aids detection of lie-threatening arrhythmias
- Aids medical diagnosis
2
Q
Types of monitoring
A
- Cardiac
- Central venous pressure
- Arterial blood pressure
- Pulmonary artery
- Intracranial pressure
- Intra-abdominal pressure
3
Q
Patients requiring haemodynamic monitoring
A
- Shocked patients
- Patients requiring close BP monitoring or multiple blood gasses
- Head injuries
- Post op
- Circulatory failure or cardiac arrest
- Certain drugs e.g. inotropes

Q
Components of a transducer system
A
- Catheter
- Low compliance tubing
- Pressure transducer to convert applied pressure into electric signal
- Amplifier to increase signal to clinically useful amplitude
- Monitor to display
