Sources of CO poisoning
A
- Smoke inhalation
- Car exhaust
- Gas heater leak

Why is CO exposure dangerous
A
- Toxic, colourless, odourless, tasteless gas (difficult to detect)
- CO has stronger affinity to Hb than O2, binding to create carboxyhaemoglobin in blood which prevents O2 delivery to tissues

Treatment of CO poisoning
A
- 100% O2 via smoke inhalation circuit

Signs and symptoms of CO poisoning
A
- Red complexion
- ^ RR
- Lethargy
- Increase COHb on VBG
- Decreased LOC
