What is cut down?
A
- Used when other methods of vascular access are unsuccessful.
- An incision is made and dilated using forceps and a vein is brought to the surface for a cannula to be inserted.
- -> Sutures are applied distally and proximally to secure.

What is the most common site for cut down?
A
- Great saphenous vein
- -> Runs medial aspect of ankle between medial malleolus and tibial tendon
