Where is an IO inserted?
A
- Tibial plateau or iliac crest in children/infants
- Humeral head/sternum in adults

What should be done when administering drugs/fluids via IO
A
- First flush with local anaesthetic as very painful
- Fluids will need pressure to overcome pressure gardient of bone marrow

When taking blood from an IO what must be done?
A
- labelled as bone marrow aspirate

What is a biers block used for?
A
- Surgical procedures or fracture manipulation in extremities
- Pressure cuff is applied (>100SBP) to act as tourniquet and restrict blood flow
- local anesthetic injected intravenously
- Tourniquet is then depressurized to restore circulation
