Difference between Prokaryotic cells and Eukaryotic cells?
Prokaryotic cells have no membrane-bound organelles. Eukaryotic cells have membrane-bound organelles and has compartmentalized function. Eukaryotic cells have their DNA enclosed within their nucleus. Whereas, prokaryotic cells only have a nucleoid region where DNA is located.
What is the Glycocalyx?
Found outside the plasma membrane or cell wall. It traps water, gives protection, and helps evade the immune system. Has unique cell identity markers that help your immune system identify your organs or tissues as your own.
Functions of cytoskeleton filaments?
Actin filament - thinnest type of protein filament that is flexible, but strong. Involved in muscle contractions. Supports the plasma membrane and plays a key role in strength and structural support.
Intermediate filaments - holds cells together. Maintains cell shape and rigidity.
Microtubules - harden structures allowing them to do their jobs.
