Radiographic Upper Limb Flashcards
Most common type of metacarpal fracture
Boxer’s Fracture
Typically a transverse fracture of neck of 5th metacarpal. Almost always consequence of a direct blow with a clenched fist against a solid surface
Boxer’s Fracture
Most commonly fractured carpal
scaphoid fracture
What can lead to avascular necrosis of the proximal pole of the scaphoid due to disruption of the blood supply
scaphoid fracture
Refers to an abnormal orientation of the scaphoid relative to the lunate and implies severe injury to the scapholunate interosseous ligament and other stabilizing ligaments.
scapholunate dissociation
Most common carpal instability
scapholunate dissociation
Abnormal articulation in scapholunate dissociation causes an increased concentration of load, leading to the development of ______ ______. Patients present with minimal swelling and pain localized over the dorsal scapholunate region and increase pain with dorsiflexion
degenerative arthritis
Radiological feature of scapholunate dissociation which indicates a widened scapholunate space on a PA view
Terry Thomas Sign
Fracture of the ulna and an anterior dislocation of the radial head at the elbow. Most commonly, physical exam reveals radial head displacement into the cubital fossa with elbow pain and tenderness.
Monteggia Fracture-Dislocation
Fracture of the distal third of the radius with dislocation of distal radioulnar joint and an intact ulna. Patient presents with swelling at the distal forearm and/or wrist with pain upon movement.
Galeazzi Fracture-Dislocation
Most common elbow fracture in adults
radial head fracture (look at the slides for this one bud)
Synovial membrane is separated from the fibrous membrane of the joint capsule by pads of fat in regions overlying the coronoid fossa, the olecranon fossa, and the radial fossa. These fat pads accommodate the related bony processes during extension and flexion of the elbow.
radial head fracture
Projection used to assess the integrity of the glenohumeral joint. Prevents overlap of the humeral head over the glenoid.
