Radio Navigation Flashcards
When using ADF navigation, where should the needle point?
To the station.
What is relative bearing?
The number of degrees you would have to turn to the RIGHT to point the aircraft at the station.
What is magnetic bearing?
The magnetic heading to fly to the station.
How can you find the magnetic bearing to the station, if you have the relative bearing and the magnetic heading?
Magnetic bearing = relative bearing + magnetic heading.
How can you find the magnetic heading, if you have the relative bearing and magnetic bearing?
Magnetic heading = magnetic bearing - relative bearing.
If the magnetic heading of the airplane is rotated to the top of the ADF indicator, what does the tail of the ADF indicator tell you? What is another way of phrasing that?
The magnetic bearing FROM the station.
It tells you what outbound bearing from the NDB is being crossed.
How many satellites are used for GPS?
24
A minimum of how many GPS satellites are always observable on earth?
5
How many GPS satellites does a receiver need to provide latitude, longitude, and altitude?
4
How can you find the relative bearing, if you know the magnetic heading and the magnetic bearing?
Relative bearing = magnetic bearing - magnetic heading.
How do you tune in a VOR frequency?
- Tune the frequency on the navigation receiver.
- Set the radial in the Omni Bearing Selector.
- Observe the TO-FROM indicator.
- Observe the Course Deviation Indicator needle.
Is VOR aligned to magnetic or true north?
Magnetic.
How do you use VOR to track a course?
Set the course direction in the OBS.
Does “radial” mean TO or FROM the VOR?
From
What does “which radial is the aircraft crossing” mean?
It means which radial TO (the reciprocal of the FROM).
